National Bike Challenge
The 5th annual National Bike Challenge begins on May 1! The NBC is a nationwide event aiming to unite 100,000 riders to pedal 75 million miles from May 1, 2016 until September 30, 2016. Sign up at www.nationalbikechallenge.org, and begin logging your daily rides and mileage, or link your GPS cycling app (Strava, Endomundo, etc) to the website for automatic syncing. It's not a race. It's about getting out and riding your bike more often.
You earn 20 points for every day that you ride at least a mile plus 1 point per mile. So for example, if you ride 3 miles on a particular day, you're awarded 23 points, or if you ride 30 miles, you're awarded 50 points. Points accumulate until the Challenge ends on September 30.
Many local areas are sponsored by local advocacy organizations. For example, the Auburn-Opelika local area challenge is sponsored by the Central Alabama Mountain Pedalers.
NBC participants can also affiliate themselves with teams, their schools and workplaces to make the challenge a group event, competing with other groups. Join the War Eagle Riding Club team at https://nationalbikechallenge.org/team/9363.
It's a free and easy way to challenge yourself. Spread the word!
